JAELYNN PENN
Butler, Junior, 5-9
* On the floor: The versatile Penn averaged 14.2 points and 5.9 rebounds for a Butler team that finished 31-5 and won its second state championship in three years. She shot 59.3 percent from the field, 40 percent from 3-point range and 71.3 percent from the free-throw line and was named the MVP of the Sweet 16, establishing herself among the front-runners for next season’s Miss Basketball award. Penn was an honorable-mention All-State pick as a freshman and a sophomore.
* Off the floor: Penn is a strong student, carrying a 4.0 grade-point average and scoring a 26 on the ACT. She takes honors classes and has talked about becoming a doctor, Butler coach Larry Just said.
* Future: Penn has committed to Dayton.
* Quotable: “She can affect the game in so many ways,” Just said. “If you take her out of the offense, she’ll go get rebounds or deflections or steals. … There might be better scorers or better rebounders, but I don’t think you’ll find a more complete player in the state.”
