Four top high school football players from Louisville announced their college commitments Sunday.
Male running back Devin Gentry announced he will attend Georgia State, Ballard defensive end/linebacker Omardrick Douglas said he’ll attend Southeast Missouri State and Trinity linebacker Damon Lowe and St. Xavier linebacker Logan Butler verbally committed to Eastern Kentucky.
The national signing period will begin Wednesday.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Gentry rushed for 1,061 yards and 19 touchdowns last season in helping Male go 15-0 and win the Class 6-A state championship. Gentry scored at least one touchdown in all 12 games he played and averaged 6.2 yards per carry. He was a third-team member of The Courier-Journal All-State team. (Here’s a feature story on Gentry.)
Douglas, 6-4 and 210 pounds, was the leader of Ballard’s defense while playing both end and linebacker. He’s also a member of Ballard’s basketball team and is the third football player from Louisville to announce a commitment to SEMO, joining Male wide receiver Zackery Smith and Male linebacker Zach Hall.
Lowe (6-1, 225) was Trinity’s top tackler last season with 53 ½. He also led the Shamrocks with 24 ½ tackles for loss and six sacks. He was a third-team member of The C-J’s All-State squad.
Butler (6-1, 190) was St. Xavier’s top tackler last season with 92 (47 solo) and also had two fumble recoveries and an interception. He was an honorable-mention selection to The C-J’s All-State team. (Here’s a feature story on Butler.)
