JEFFERSONTOWN (2-9 in 2015)
Coach: Russell Rigdon (first season).
Starters back: Offense 2, defense 3.
Class: 6-A, District 4.
Player to watch: Senior running back/linebacker Omega Gee (5-7, 185) will play key roles on both offense and defense. He’s the top returning tackler on the team after posting 27 (six solo) last season.
Other top players: QB Nathaniel Calloway (Jr.), RB Kristian Mayes (So.), WR Marshall Barnes (So.), WR/DB Douglas Weaver (Jr.), OL/DL Jacorey Grinstead (Sr.), OL/DL Jacob Warner (Sr.), WR/DB Devontae Jackson (Sr.).
Outlook: Rigdon, an assistant coach at Manual the past six seasons, takes over a J’town program that has endured several coaching changes over the past few years and has posted a combined 6-27 record over the past three seasons. “We are trying to change the culture and expectations,” Rigdon said. “The players are working hard to achieve success on the field and bring a winning attitude back to J’town.” Calloway (5-9, 150) doesn’t have much experience or size but is a running and passing threat at quarterback. Rigdon said the Chargers’ strengths will be their running game, as they do have some size on the offensive line led by Grinstead (6-4, 320) and Warner (6-0, 280).
