Mercer County, which reached the Sweet 16 semifinals last month, headlines the group of four teams that have been selected to play in next year’s girls basketball Louisville Invitational Tournament.
Mercer County, Henderson County, Simon Kenton and South Warren will play in the event set for Jan. 24-28 at Bellarmine University’s Knights Hall.
Henderson County won the Second Region title last season, Simon Kenton lost in the Eighth Region final and South Warren fell in the Fourth Region semifinals.
Those four schools will join the top 12 teams from the Sixth and Seventh regions, based on the first edition of The Courier-Journal’s Litkenhous Ratings.
Butler defeated Male 68-54 in the 2016 LIT final. The Bearettes went on to win the state title.
