ALLY NIECE
Simon Kenton, Sophomore, 5-9
* On the floor: Niece averaged 20.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 2 steals for a Pioneers squad that finished 24-6 after falling to Trimble County in the Eighth Region final. She shot 48.6 percent from the field and 81.9 percent from the free-throw line. She’s improving as a 3-point shooter but gets the majority of her points by going to the basket and getting fouled. She started her career at Scott High, joining the varsity team as a sixth-grader, and transferred to Simon Kenton before her freshman season. She already has 2,101 career points.
* Off the floor: Niece’s father, Kelly, played basketball at Scott in the 1980s.
* Future: Niece has a scholarship offer from Xavier and is drawing interest from several other NCAA Division I schools.
* Quotable: “She’s very good at giving you one move and then going to the basket,” Pioneers coach Jeff Stowers said. “Ally can shoot the ball, but if it’s easier for her to get to the basket she’s going to get to the basket.”
