HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Manual High School senior Krys McCune confirmed Friday that she suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee on Thursday during the first round of the St. Elizabeth Healthcare/KHSAA Sweet 16 at BB&T Arena.
McCune said doctors in Louisville diagnosed the injury Friday morning. She said she will have an MRI on Saturday morning to determine the extent of the injury. A typical recovery from an ACL tear takes 6-9 months.
McCune, a 6-foot-3 senior who has signed with West Virginia, went down with 2:43 left in the first quarter Thursday during the Crimsons’ 58-41 loss to Murray.
McCune is a finalist for Kentucky’s Miss Basketball award after averaging 9.5 points and 8.9 rebounds. At halftime of Friday’s Franklin County-Campbell County game she was on hand to receive her award as the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches’ Seventh Region Player of the Year.
