Taylor County sweeps team championships

The Taylor County High School girls and boys bowling teams swept the team titles Friday at the State Championships held at Collins Eastland in Lexington, Ky.

It’s the first time since the Kentucky High School Athletic Association began sponsoring the sport in 2012 that the same school has won both titles. Taylor County’s girls also won the team championship in 2013.

On Friday, Taylor County’s girls defeated Central Hardin 3-1 in the championship match.

Male was the only Louisville-area school to win a first-round match, defeating Simon Kenton 3-1 before falling to Corbin 3-0 in the quarterfinals.

In other first-round matches, Harrison County beat Manual 3-0, Corbin defeated Mercy 3-1 and West Jessamine knocked off Bullitt East 3-1.

Taylor County took the boys crown with a 3-1 victory over Paul Dunbar in the final.

Pleasure Ridge Park was the only Louisville-area team to reach the quarterfinals, beating Butler 3-1 in the first round before falling to Paul Dunbar.

In other first-round matches, Campbell County beat Ballard 3-2 and Apollo defeated Trinity 3-2.
