South Oldham senior Trent Bouvet is an accomplished artist who works with pens, paints and 3-pointers.

The 6-foot-2 small forward is one of the top 3-point shooters in the state as well as the Dragons’ second-leading scorer (11.6 points per game). Through 24 games Bouvet has hit 67 3s – good for 2.8 per game.

In South Oldham’s 92-47 win over Williamstown on Feb. 4, he hit a school-record 10 3-pointers (including nine in the first half) on his way to 32 points. As a team the Dragons (21-3) hit 24 3s – which ranks as the third-highest single-game total in state history according to KHSAA records – that night.

The Courier-Journal: When did you start playing basketball?

I started playing when I was about 4. I just picked up on it. My dad had these old NBA basketball videotapes and I used to just watch those all the time. I would try to emulate what I saw and I just fell in love with it.

What happened in the Williamstown game?

That was great because it was Senior Night and so we did all that stuff. It was a significant game for us (too), we just wanted to go out on a really good note. I just came out really hot, and all of the sudden I just had a bunch of threes racked up. It just seemed like I was getting pretty good looks, and they weren’t coming out of the zone they were in, and my teammates were finding me and I just got on a roll.

Was there one of those 10 3’s that stood out?

There was one. I (got) a pass from the top of the key, I caught it and I pump-faked the guy. As he was going by me then I was ready to take the shot and he came back towards me, fouled me and I hit the shot. I don’t know how it went in. After that my teammates all just kind of bum-rushed me and I was trying to stay calm and really not get too excited about it, but that got them really hyped up. That one was just pretty cool.

You’re not sure you want to play basketball in college, but do you know what you want to study?

I want to probably major in either graphic design or illustration, or just maybe study fine arts, but definitely something with art. …Hopefully in maybe about 10 years I think it would be cool to do illustrations for books and different things like that. Maybe do graphics for video games. I feel like there’s a lot of possibilities, but if I’m doing something with that I think I’ll be happy.

What’s the goal for this season?

Right now we’ve got the number one seed in our district, so we’re looking forward to the (first-round) game, which will be against Trimble County, just getting past that game so we can make it to regionals. (Then) we’re looking to win the region, that’s definitely the big goal. As far as the rest of the regular season, just win out.

You like to listen to “calming” music before games, what do you listen to?

This might sound surprising but before games I listen to a lot of Beach Boys. I don’t know why, but me and my buddies got into them last summer for some reason. Stuff like that. I listen to a lot of old-soul music (too) or like way back Frank Sinatra-type stuff, some jazz kind of them, just to kind of comfort myself a little bit. But I listen to a variety (of music).

TRENT BOUVET UP CLOSE

School: South Oldham.

Year: Senior.

Sport: Basketball.

Student-athlete: Trent, whose favorite subject is AP Studio Art, has a 3.5 GPA. He recently won a regional Scholastic Gold Key award for his senior art portfolio, entitled “Confliction,” and had it displayed at the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft. He is in his third year on the varsity basketball team and his second season as a starter.

Family: Trent lives with his mother, Jill and his father, Garry. His older sister, Meghan, 19, attends the University of Kentucky.

South Oldham coach Steve Simpson says: Trent is the epitome of a hard-worker. He loves basketball, he comes in, he’s here, out of five school days he’ll be here four of them at 7 a.m. shooting. He’s really dedicated to the game. He likes talking about basketball, playing basketball, watching basketball, he just loves everything there is about it. He’s a good role model for our younger players when it comes to coming in and working in the offseason and doing those kinds of things.
