MOORE (3-7 in 2015)
Coach: Carlo Stallings (second season).
Starters back: Offense 9, defense 10.
Class: 3-A, District 3.
Player to watch: Senior Russell Vaden (6-3, 205 pounds) was a big-play wide receiver last year, hauling in 32 receptions for 669 yards and six touchdowns. He expects a bigger season as a senior. “The season I had last year was great, but I feel like I can do a whole lot better this year,” he said. “My goal for the team is to have a winning record, but my goal as a player is to have 1,000 all-purpose yards.”
Other top players: QB/DB Sincere McMurray (Jr.), RB/WR/DB Montre Walker (Sr.), OL/DL Shawn Dent (Jr.), OL/DL Keyeris Marshall (So.), OL/DL Keyon Marshall (So.), OL/DL Henry Price (Jr.), TE Justin Weaver (So.).
Outlook: Moore hasn’t posted a winning record since going 7-5 in 2001, and Stallings believes this is the year the Mustangs can break that skid. Three of last year’s losses were by a combined 10 points. “We’ve been working really hard trying to change the culture and change the mind-set of the team,” Stallings said. McMurray leads a fast-paced offense at quarterback after passing for 984 yards and 10 touchdowns last season and also rushing for 238 yards and two scores. Vaden leads what Stallings called “one of the top receiving corps in the state.” Dent is the top returning tackler after posting 52 (45 solo) last year. “He has a non-stop motor,” Stallings said.
