BULLITT CENTRAL (6-5 in 2015)
Coach: Matt Kuehn (first season).
Starters back: Offense 5, defense 7.
Class: 5-A, District 3.
Player to watch: Senior fullback/outside linebacker Gavin Curry is “a man of few words,” according to Kuehn. The 5-foot-11 200-pounder lets his play on the field do the talking though. He’ll get some carries this season in the Cougars’ new-look offense while also leading a defense that, in his own words, “is looking very powerful this year.”
Other top players: TB/S Zac Clark (Jr.), RB/DB John Coulter (Sr.), FS Duncan Strong (Sr.), OC/DL James Combest (Sr.), QB/DB Brian Schmidt (Sr.).
Outlook: New coach Kuehn, the Cougars’ defensive coordinator last season, takes over a team that led 5-A in passing last season but graduated two of the primary reasons why (QB Cameron Dukes and WR Chase Craddock). “This year we’re going to go back a little bit more toward the running game, try to build our identity through the run,” Kuehn said. “It’s going to be multiple hands on the ball. We’re not going to have that one horse that carries us, it’s going to be a bunch of individuals.” Clark, who is moving from WR (where he had 25 catches for 375 yards and one TD last year), will be one of the featured running backs this season.
