Tim Mudd, who consistently had the Elizabethtown High School girls basketball program ranked among the state’s best, announced Friday he has stepped down as the Panthers’ head coach.
Mudd was unavailable for comment Friday, but E’town athletic director Glenn Spalding confirmed Mudd’s resignation.
“He talked to myself and the principal and the girls today,” Spalding said. “We’ll probably do something publicly on Monday.”
A 1984 E’town grad, Mudd posted a 563-136 record in 22 seasons and won eight regional titles. His 1997-98 squad won the state title, and he led E’town to state runner-up finishes in 1997, 2009 and 2014.
His 2015-16 squad finished 30-5 after falling to eventual champion Butler in the Sweet 16 quarterfinals.
Mudd was a two-time winner (1997 and 2009) of The Courier-Journal’s Girls Basketball Coach of the Year honor.
