HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Macey Turley had 25 points, three assists and three rebounds to lead the Murray High School girls basketball team to a 60-43 victory over Owensboro Catholic on Friday in the quarterfinals of the St. Elizabeth Healthcare/KHSAA Sweet 16 at BB&T Arena.
Turley, a 5-foot-7 sophomore, hit 5 of 6 3-point shots as Murray (35-1) – No. 7 in the state in The Courier-Journal’s Litkenhous Ratings – extended the state’s longest winning streak to 29 and advanced to the state semifinals for the first time.
Maddie Waldrop added 14 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals as Murray advanced to face the Elizabethtown-Butler winner in Saturday’s 8 p.m. semifinal. The Tigers shot 58.3 percent (21 of 36).
Emily Marshall and Caroline Hayden both scored 11 points to lead Owensboro Catholic (31-6), which dropped to 0-3 against Murray this season. The previous two meetings were decided by 16 and 17 points.
Mikayla Berry’s 3-point play pulled the Aces within 47-41 with 5:47 remaining, but the Tigers closed the game with a 13-2 run. Owensboro Catholic hit just 3 of 9 shots in the fourth quarter.
