The Sixth and Seventh region girls basketball tournaments got going Monday, and there were no surprises as the top four teams in both regions moved on to Wednesday’s semifinals. Find coverage here.
Here are a few regional quarterfinals to keep an eye on around the state tonight:
* Second Region – Webster County (20-9) at Hopkinsville (20-10). Hopkinsville won regular-season meeting 82-74 on Dec. 1.
* Third Region – Daviess County (22-7) vs. Breckinridge County (18-10) at Owensboro Sportscenter. Daviess County won regular-season meeting 63-57 on Nov. 30.
* 14th Region – Jenkins (16-14) vs. Perry County Central (14-8) at Powell County. Teams split their two regular-season meetings. Will this be the last game for Jenkins senior Whitney Creech? The WKU signee is the state’s all-time leading scorer with 5,369 points.
* 15th Region – Johnson Central (18-11) vs. Shelby Valley (25-3) at Eastern Kentucky Expo Center. These are the top teams in the 15th Region according to the Litkenhous Ratings. Shelby Valley beat Johnson Central twice in December.
* 16th Region – Ashland Blazer (14-15) vs. Rowan County (22-8) at Morehead State. The Kittens have struggled this season but have one of the state’s top sophomores in Mykassa Robinson (18.9 ppg, 6.7 rpg).
