Finalists named for Mr. and Miss Basketball - Sharpe, Cook, Downey, McCune are Louisville-area nominees

The Kentucky Lions Eye Foundation and the Kentucky Association of Basketball Coaches have released their Players of the Year for all 16 regions, with each of them being named a finalist for the state’s Mr. or Miss Basketball awards.

A total of 18 boys are finalists for the Mr. Basketball award, as two regions (Fifth and 11th) had co-Players of the Year. Seventeen girls are nominated for Miss Basketball, as the Ninth Region had co-Players of the Year.

Mr. Basketball nominees from the Louisville area are Sixth Region Player of the Year Tyler Sharpe from Bullitt East and Seventh Region Player of the Year Alex Cook from Male.

Miss Basketball nominees from the Louisville area are Sixth Region Player of the Year Katie Downey from North Bullitt and Seventh Region Player of the Year Krys McCune from Manual.

Coaches, media members and other select voters will have until Feb. 26 to submit their final ballots. Winners will be announced March 15 during a ceremony in Lexington.

Here are the Players of the Year for each region:

* Boys: First Region – James Boone (Murray); Second – Tyrik Edwards (Christian County); Third – Stewart Currie (Daviess County); Fourth – Wade Coomer (Barren County); Fifth – Mason Faulkner (Caverna) and Quentin Goodin (Taylor County); Sixth – Tyler Sharpe (Bullitt East); Seventh – Alex Cook (Male); Eighth – Carson Williams (Owen County); Ninth – Ben Weyer (Newport Central Catholic); 10th Matt Wilson (Campbell County); 11th Isaiah Tisdale (Henry Clay) and Darius Williams (Paul Dunbar); 12th Trey Blevins (Wayne County); 13th Caleb Taylor (South Laurel); 14th Conner Haskins (Buckhorn); 15th Hunter Swindall (Shelby Valley); 16th Jordan Perry (Morgan County).

* Girls: First Region – Maddye Rice (McCracken County); Second – Adarian Gray (Madisonville-North Hopkins); Third – Mikayla Berry (Owensboro Catholic); Fourth – Bree Glover (Glasgow); Fifth – Erin Boley (Elizabethtown); Sixth – Katie Downey (North Bullitt); Seventh – Krys McCune (Manual); Eighth – Kaci Currens (Anderson County); Ninth – Mallory Schwartz (Ryle) and Ansley Davenport (Newport Central Catholic); 10th Bailey Cummins (Bracken County); 11th Malaka Frank (Franklin County); 12th Emma Young (East Jessamine); 13th Kayla Bruner (North Laurel); 14th Whitney Creech (Jenkins); 15th Jassmine Howard (Magoffin County); 16th Ashton Woodard (Menifee County).
