Girls LIT | Hot start lifts Butler past Christian Academy

The Butler High School girls basketball team jumped to leads of 10-0 and 17-2 in the first quarter and never looked back in a 78-40 victory over Christian Academy on Wednesday in the second round of the Republic Bank/Coca-Cola Consolidated Louisville Invitational Tournament at Bellarmine University’s Knights Hall.

Butler (14-4) – No. 4 in the state in The Courier-Journal’s Litkenhous Ratings – hit 13 of 17 shots on its way to a 31-13 lead after the first quarter and finished at 54.1 percent (33 of 61) for the game.

Jaelynn Penn, a junior who has committed to Dayton, had 16 points, nine rebounds and three steals to lead the Bearettes. Junior Teri Goodlett (Eastern Kentucky commit) added 14 points and seven rebounds.

Emma Wesley scored 15 points to lead CAL (13-7)
