Crad Jaggers, a member of one of Kentucky’s most successful family of coaches, has been named the new football coach at Valley High School.
The 38-year-old Jaggers most recently was the defensive coordinator at Nelson County in 2014. He did not coach last season.
“I was looking for the perfect opportunity,” Jaggers said. “I’ve been doing my homework, and football is in my blood. … It was a blessing the Valley job came open. After meeting with (principal Rob Stephenson and athletic director William Raleigh), I knew they wanted a top-notch football program. That’s exactly what I was looking for.”
Jaggers replaces John Spiva, who stepped down after posting a 6-15 record over two seasons. The Vikings were 6-5 last season, their first winning season since 2009.
“We’re looking forward to carrying that on and building Valley up more and to where it used to be a number of years ago,” Jaggers said.
Jaggers is a 1996 graduate of North Hardin and played baseball and football at both Western Kentucky University and Campbellsville University.
After serving as an assistant at the University of the Cumberlands, North Hardin and Central Hardin, Jaggers was the head coach at North Hardin from 2008-11 and posted an 18-26 record. Jaggers did not coach in 2012 and was on the staff at T.K. Stone Middle School in 2013 before heading to Nelson County.
Jaggers’ father, Joe, won 292 games and five state championships in 33 seasons as head coach at North Hardin, Fort Knox, Trigg County, Nelson County and Old Kentucky Home.
Crad’s brother, Marty, led Mercer County to a state championship in 2006 and now is the athletic director at Trigg County. Josh Jaggers – Marty’s son and Crad’s nephew – is an assistant coach at John Hardin.
