The Graves County boys basketball program has been placed on probation and fined $1,500 by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association for violating Bylaw 16 concerning recruitment and undue influence.

In a news release, the KHSAA said Graves County violated rules during the 2014-15 academic year by conducting open-gym activities in which athletes from other schools participated without consent from their respective schools.

The KHSAA also said Graves County assistant coach Lyndon Dunning violated rules by having contact with the family of an athlete from another school (Hickman County) about the open-gym activities.

“Graves County Schools will in no way tolerate violations of the KHSAA bylaws,” Graves County principal Matthew Madding said. “We take a great deal of pride in our compliant membership with the KHSAA and have already begun taking steps to ensure the issues at hand are corrected immediately.”

Graves County was placed on probation through the 2016-17 academic year but did not receive a postseason ban. Also, Dunning was suspended for three games and all contracts for boys basketball games between Graves County and Hickman County are considered null and void, with neither team having forfeiture penalties applied.
