Fans voted Trinity guard Jacob King the winner of The Courier-Journal Metro Louisville Athlete of the Week Award presented by Norton Sports Health. The junior posted 16 points, six assists and five steals to help the Shamrocks rally for a 72-64 victory over Fern Creek on Saturday.
Last week’s other nominees included Butler girls basketball player Tasia Jeffries, North Oldham swimmer Grace Oglesby and Iroquis basketball player Kenny Saunders.
Jeffries scored 21 points, hitting 3 of 6 3-point attempts, to lead the Bearettes to a 72-52 victory over Bullitt East on Tuesday. Oglesby won the 100- and 200-yard butterfly races during last weekend’s U.S. Junior National Championships in Atlanta. Saunders hit a pair of buzzer-beating shots to win games for the Raiders – one from half court to beat Atherton 83-81 on Tuesday and a 15-footer to defeat DeSales 60-58 on Friday.
Each Monday afternoon, four new athletes will be posted here as nominees for the Athlete of the Week Award. Voting runs through 8 p.m. Sunday. The winners will be invited to the year-end Courier-Journal Courier-Journal Kentuckiana Sports Awards Program banquet presented by Norton Sports Health.
