Several of the nation’s top high school basketball recruits will compete in this weekend’s Bluegrass Showcase at Paul Dunbar.
University of Kentucky signee Wenyen Gabriel will lead his Wilbraham & Monson Academy (Mass.) squad against Ontario (Canada) Athlete Institute at 8 p.m. Saturday. Athlete Institute features 7-foot center Thon Maker, a five-star recruit who reportedly is considering Arizona State, Indiana and Kansas, among other schools.
Other top recruits in the event include senior forward Rawle Alkins of Raleigh (N.C.) Word of God Christian Academy, junior center DeAndre Ayton of Phoenix Hillcrest Academy and junior forward Jarred Vanderbilt of Houston Victory Prep. Alkins has scholarship offers from UK, Louisville and Indiana.

* The Bullitt East boys basketball team will represent the Louisville area in Saturday’s Central Bank Jim Rose Classic at Lexington Christian.

* Several top girls basketball teams, including Male, will compete in Saturday’s Lady Defender Classic at Bryan Station.
