Manual’s Alena Sapienza-Wright voted Metro Louisville Athlete of the Week

Fans voted Manual High School cross country runner Alena Sapienza-Wright the winner of The Courier-Journal Metro Louisville Athlete of the Week Award presented by Norton Sports Health. The sophomore finished in 12th place with a time of 17 minutes, 54 seconds in the Foot Locker South Regional Cross Country Championships held in Charlotte, N.C.

Last week’s other nominees included South Oldham cross country runner Cole Dowdy, Fern Creek football player Jamison White and Male football player Dayveon Higgs.

Dowdy finished in seventh place with a time of 15 minutes, 16 seconds in the Foot Locker South Regional Cross Country Championships. White rushed for 128 yards on 21 carries in a 21-0 loss at Bowling Green in a Class 5-A semifinal. Higgs rushed for 96 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries in a 50-0 victory at Central Hardin in a Class 6-A semifinal.

Each Monday afternoon, four new athletes will be posted here as nominees for the Athlete of the Week Award. Voting runs through 8 p.m. Sunday. The winners will be invited to the year-end Courier-Journal Courier-Journal Kentuckiana Sports Awards Program banquet presented by Norton Sports Health.
