Ashland Blazer High School running back Quinton Baker, considered a top contender for Kentucky’s Mr. Football award this year, announced Monday he has changed his college commitment from Marshall to Western Kentucky University.

Baker visited WKU on Friday during its 49-28 victory over Marshall.

Baker, a 5-foot-8 176-pounder, rushed for 1,976 yards and 26 touchdowns this season as the Tomcats finished 9-3. He averaged 10.1 yards per carry.

A four-year starter at Ashland Blazer, Baker rushed for 6,234 yards and scored 86 touchdowns in his career (79 rushing, four receiving, one kickoff return, one fumble return, one interception return).

Baker originally committed to the University of Kentucky in October of 2014 but backed off that announcement a month later, saying, “I committed too early.”

Baker is rated a three-star recruit by Rivals.com and Scout.com. He was the Class 2-A state track and field champion last May in the 100- and 200-meter dashes with times of 10.79 and 21.95 seconds, respectively.

Along with WKU, Marshall and UK, Baker reportedly has scholarship offers from Eastern Kentucky, Ball State, Middle Tennessee State, Ohio and Troy. He can sign a National Letter of Intent next February.

Linebacker Drew O’Bryan, Baker’s teammate at Ashland Blazer, committed to WKU in July.
