In an extremely close vote, fans voted Assumption volleyball state championship MVP Allie Gregory as the winner of The Courier-Journal Metro Louisville Athlete of the Week Award presented by Norton Sports Health. Gregory posted 13 digs and an ace in the Rockets’ 25-5, 25-14, 25-10 victory over Owensboro Catholic in the state championship match.
Last week’s other nominees included Sacred Heart senior defender Claire Fell, who scored the only goal in the Valkyries’ 1-0 victory in the girls soccer state final, South Oldham cross country state champion Cole Dowdy and Holy Cross cross country state runner-up Keeton Thornsberry.
Each Monday afternoon, four new athletes will be posted here as nominees for the Athlete of the Week Award. Voting runs through 8 p.m. Sunday. The winners will be invited to the year-end Courier-Journal Courier-Journal Kentuckiana Sports Awards Program banquet presented by Norton Sports Health.
