On Saturday, in the final day of competition in the 2016 Speedo Winter Junior National Championships, Forde set a meet record in the 200 yard breaststroke finals, finishing with a time of 2:09.12. Forde broke Allison Raab’s record of 2:09.69. Raab finished second to Forde in the 200 yard breastroke on Saturday as well with a time of 2:09.86.
Forde later on Saturday finished in second place in the 200 yard butterfly finals with a time of 1:57.00.
“She’s been pretty sharp all fall,” Lakeside Seahawks head coach Mike DeBoor said. “She set out going to Tokyo and Hong Kong (at the 2016 FINA World Cup) and that helped her gain confidence and sharpness. I think that was a big boost and that carried on (into now). She’s a really confident young lady and is really talented. I don’t think anything she did was unexpected but she’s going to continue to improve and continue to see results.”
Cardinal Aquatics’ Nicholas Albiero had another memorable day as well, with two podium finishes. He finished in third-place by just 23 hundredths of a second in the 200 yard backstroke finals with a time of 1:45.15, and then lost by an even tighter margin, 11 hundredths of a second, in the 200 yard butterfly, finishing with a time of 1:44.21.
Through the whole competition, Albiero broke USA Swimming state meet records in the 15-18 year old age group in the 200 yard individual medley, 100 yard backstroke, 200 yard backstroke, 100 yard butterfly and 200 yard butterfly.
His sister Gabriela Albiero broke state meet records for the 13-14 year old age group in the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard freestyle. Gabriela Albiero finished in first place of the consolation final in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.78 and in sixth place of the consolation final of the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 50.18.
