Sacred Heart's Hammons named Miss Volleyball - Three Valkyries receive first-team All-State honors

Paige Hammons, who led the Sacred Heart Academy volleyball team to its first state title in 13 years on Sunday, has been named 2016 Miss Volleyball by the Kentucky Volleyball Coaches Association.

Hammons, an outside hitter who has committed to the University of Florida, was named the state tournament’s MVP after the Valkyries beat Henry Clay 25-19, 25-13, 19-25, 25-19 in the state final and finished the season with a 40-4 record.

The 6-foot-2 Hammons finished the season with 606 kills (5.4 per set), 280 digs, 62 blocks and 38 aces.

Hammons also was named Class 3-A Player of the Year. Scott’s Kelly Franxman took 2-A Player of the Year, and Presentation’s Jalen Story was named Class A Player of the Year.

Hammons was one of three Sacred Heart players to receive first-team All-State honors, joining Lauryn Bennett and Nadia Dieudonne. Assumption’s Alexis Hamilton and Brooke Moore, Mercy’s Kelly O’Neil and Presentation’s Story also were named first-team All-State.
