It’s playoff time with the C-J’s Jason Frakes and Chris White looking at this week’s monster playoff games in the Louisville area.

GARRARD COUNTY (5-5) AT CENTRAL (5-5)

* Kickoff: 7:30 p.m.

* Storyline: Yellowjackets have won 12 straight first-round playoff games.

* Next week: Winner will face Moore-Boyle County winner in Class 3-A second-round game.

* Garrard County: The Golden Lions snapped a three-game losing streak with a 69-30 victory at West Jessamine last week. Junior Josh Warren (11 carries, 238 yards, three TDs) and senior Jacob Foley (29 carries, 220 yards, three TDs) both had big games on the ground for an offense that averages 285 rushing yards per game. Garrard County is the only team to beat Shelby County this year (41-31 on Aug. 19).

* Central: The Yellowjackets’ five-game winning streak was snapped last week in a 42-3 loss at Pleasure Ridge Park. Senior quarterback James Simpson passed for 121 yards. Senior running back Corey Johnson (594 yards, nine TDs) sat out with an ankle sprain, but coach Ty Scroggins said Johnson will play against Garrard County. Senior Chereioun Jones (559 yards, five TDs) is Central’s other top running back.

* Quotable: “We had a good run through 3-A football, and then PRP put it to us last week and showed us everything we could not do,” Scroggins said. “I think we have the talent to get to (the state final). These guys just have to believe.”

* The pick: Central 30-22.
