Erica Cooper scored on an assist from Camryn Pichea at the 1:27 mark of overtime to lead the Assumption High School field hockey team to a 1-0 victory over Sacred Heart on Monday in a battle of nationally ranked programs in the semifinals of the state tournament at Bellarmine University’s Frazier Stadium.
Assumption (23-3-1), ranked No. 11 in the nation by MaxFieldHockey.com, beat No. 14 Sacred Heart (21-6) for the fourth time in five meetings this season.
Assumption will face Manual (20-5-2) in Wednesday’s 6 p.m. championship game.
Manual beat Christian Academy 1-0 in Monday’s other semifinal. Sarah Biggs’ unassisted goal was the winner for the Crimsons. CAL finished 21-5-1.
