* St. Xavier: The Tigers – No. 7 in the state in the Litkenhous Ratings – got a statement victory last week with a 31-21 win over Male, holding the Bulldogs scoreless in the second half. Running back Sam Taylor (23 carries, 102 yards, two touchdowns) and quarterback Desmond Ridder (19-90-1) both had big games on the ground. St. X has clinched the Class 6-A, District Three title.
* Butler: The Bears snapped a three-game losing streak with a 33-27 victory at Eastern last week. Senior quarterback Blake Showalter completed 20 of 36 passes for 305 yards and five touchdowns – three to sophomore Demontae Crumes (three catches, 112 yards) and two to junior Frank Bentley (five catches, 61 yards). Butler will be the No. 5 seed from Class 6-A, District Three on go on the road in the first round of the playoffs.
