St. X, Trinity 1-2 after Day One of state tourney - CAL's Zimmerer in third place in individual standings

The St. Xavier High School golf team posted an even-par round of 288 to take a 13-shot lead after Friday’s first round of the Leachman Buick-GMC-Cadillac/KHSAA State Championships at Bowling Green Country Club.

Seeking its third straight state title, St. X was led by senior Clay Amlung with a 3-under-par 69. He is tied for fourth place in the individual standings.

The Tigers also got solid rounds from juniors Jay Kirchdorfer (72), Andrew Hinkebein (73) and Will Fowler (74) and freshman Campbell Kremer (77).

Trinity is in second place after posting a 301. Sophomore Evan Bone led the Shamrocks with a 72 and is tied for eighth place. Seniors Kyle Davis (75) and Michael Blair (77) and freshmen J.M. Butler (77) and Hudson Hummel (83) rounded out Trinity’s scoring.

Ryle is in third place after a 302, and Elizabethtown and Greenwood are tied for fourth at 304. Saturday’s final round will start at 9 a.m. EDT.

Lyon County junior Cullan Brown leads the race for the individual title after a 66. Brown was last year’s state runner-up.

Glasgow senior Chase Landrum is one shot back after a 67, and Christian Academy senior Hayden Zimmerer is third at 68. Amlung is tied with South Warren senior Dawson McDaniel at 69.

Other Louisville-area individuals who made the cut were Bullitt East senior Zach Taylor (73, tied for 15th) and Manual senior Robbie Keyes (76, tied for 39th). Holy Cross junior Cooper Scott (81) and Ballard sophomore Miles Parroco (84) missed the cut. Parroco had a hole-in-one on the par-3 third hole.
