The University of Louisville is expected to host several of the area’s best local recruiting prospects, including multiple players with scholarship offers from the Cardinals, at Thursday’s season-opening game against Charlotte.
Former U of L player Chris Vaughn, who trains many of the area’s best players at the Aspirations gym in Jeffersonville, said he’ll be bringing four-star Trinity 2019 defensive end Stephen Herron (U of L offer), Waggener 2018 cornerback Jairus Brents (U of L offer), Waggener 2018 defensive lineman Tahj Rice (U of L offer), Trinity 2018 receiver Rondale Moore, Waggener 2017 quarterback Larry Harper, Waggener 2018 receiver Manny Harper, Ballard 2017 offensive lineman and Western Kentucky commitment DeShon Washington.
Moore 2017 running back Greg Bethel and Spencer County 2018 running back Kadin Smith are expected to attend the game.
As for other players in town, two other U of L offer holders from 2019 – Doss receiver/DB Shawn’kel Knight-Goff and Christian Academy receiver Milton Wright – are also likely visitors.
And some other possible visitors from the area: Doss 2018 offensive lineman Charles Allen, Jeffersonville 2017 running back Jordan Barnett, Manual 2017 receiver Jaelin Carter, Atherton 2017 defensive lineman Javon Fenwick, Nelson County 2018 defensive lineman Tyler Hughes, Trinity 2017 linebacker Isaac Martin, Jeff 2017 defensive lineman Dayna Overton, Manual 2019 running back Aidan Robbins, Male 2017 receiver/DB Brian Smith, Doss 2018 receiver Terez Traynor, Manual 2019 receiver/DB Bobby Vinegar and North Oldham 2017 kicker Jakson Wine.
Stephen Herron, 2019 defensive end for Trinity High School, recently received his first scholarship offers from Louisville, Tennessee and Indiana.
As for Vaughn’s trainees, Herron is ranked the nation’s No. 15 prospect in the 2019 class by 247Sports.com. He has early offers from U of L, Kentucky, Indiana, Notre Dame, Tennessee and Ohio State.
The speedster Brents is ranked No. 132 nationally in 2018 by 247, and the powerful Rice is No. 187. Both have U of L offers.
Moore, a Trinity wide receiver who, like Herron transferred from New Albany, is a slot receiver who doesn’t have a U of L offer yet but has performed well at the Cards’ camps. UK and IU have offered.
Vaughn also said he’s excited to introduce U of L’s coaches to seventh-grader and 12-year-old Kiy’Aunti Goodin, who, according to Vaughn, is already 6-foot-4, 300 pounds and wears a size-18 shoe.
