Trinity RB scores 3 touchdowns in win over Brentwood Academy

Trinity controlled the game early and entered the fourth quarter with a convincing 20-7 lead, but Brentwood played with a determination in the final quarter to get back into the game.

Brentwood senior QB Jeremiah Oatsvall, who threw for 187 yards and rushed for 97, led his offense to 14 fourth-quarter points in hopes of a come-from-behind victory, but the Shamrocks answered each score with one of their own.

Following Brentwood’s second touchdown of the fourth quarter, Blackburn managed to get his team out of a dangerous third-and-7 situation at midfield by running 10 yards, and on the next play, Thomas rushed 46 yards down the right sideline for his third touchdown of the game. Senior defensive back Zyan Bethel cemented the Trinity victory with an interception (his second of the game) at the two-minute mark as Brentwood attempted to cut Trinity’s lead back to seven points.

Trinity head coach Bob Beatty said after the game he was proud of his team’s overall effort and the grit they showed during the fourth quarter.

“Our motto tonight was, ‘Get knocked down seven, get back up eight,’ and in these types of games, that’s what you have to do,” said Beatty. “We had a couple of penalties we didn’t let bother us, and we were able to get back up. We had that interception late in the ball game, and the team just kept playing. Hats off to our kids. They executed (the game plan) to perfection.”

Blackburn managed just 29 yards passing on the night, but Trinity rushed for 386 yards as a team, and the defense did not allow one third-down conversion.

This is the fourth time Trinity and Brentwood have faced off since 2011, and Trinity has won each contest. Next week, the Shamrocks travel to Lexington to take on Class 6A foe Lafayette.
